If the time has come to end your marriage, it is important to enlist the support of an experienced South Florida divorce attorney to guide you through the divorce process and help you legally establish the foundations for your new life.

At Orner Law, LLC, our lawyers strive to provide effective legal services to clients throughout South Florida seeking a contested or uncontested divorce. We tailor our approach to meet the specific needs and concerns of our clients.

When the two parties are committed to working together toward a reasonable divorce settlement, appropriate options may include negotiation, mediation and collaborative divorce. Resolving issues outside of court is often less expensive and less damaging to the children. It also allows you to retain more control over the outcome of the divorce.

In many cases, the two parties are simply not able to resolve every issue on their own. When you have Orner Law, LLC, on your side, you will never have to worry about whether your attorney is up to the task. We are experienced courtroom litigators who will aggressively advocate for our clients.

You can rely on us for skilled representation in all areas of divorce, including child custody, child support, spousal support (alimony), and the division of assets and debts. We can even help you with the selling of the marital home.

The only requirement to obtain a divorce in Florida (technically called “dissolution of marriage”) is to prove that your marriage is “irretrievably broken.” Either spouse can file a petition seeking to for the dissolution of marriage. The petitioning spouse must prove that the marriage exists, and that at least one of the spouses has been a Florida resident for six months immediately prior to the filing of the petition. The petition must also state that the marriage is “irretrievably broken”.

Each divorce case is unique and, therefore, results vary from case to case. In each case, the issues are different, which can include the division of property and possessions, responsibility for support, and parental responsibility and time-sharing with children (what was historically called “visitation rights”).

In addition, by law in Florida the courts are required to divide marital property in accordance with a process known as “equitable distribution”.  As the name implies, the goal of the equitable distribution law is a fair division of marital property between the divorcing spouses.

Our firm has the skills to help clients with large, complex marital estates achieve an equitable distribution of property. We work with appraisers, forensic accountants, business evaluators and other experts to identify, evaluate and equally divide assets.

Assets held by high-net-worth couples may include real estate holdings, complex investments, stock options, pension plans, 401(k) plans, antiques, paintings, collections, boats, planes and other property.

The divorce process is almost always an emotional or even traumatic one for the spouses and any children, along with parents and other loved ones. Spouses may be confused about or unaware of their rights and responsibilities. A great deal of general information is available through sources such as the Internet, and it may be tempting to “do it yourself”. However, each divorce, just like each family, is unique, and only a lawyer can provide legal advice concerning your particular circumstances. In addition, failure to comply with certain legal requirements and court rules may cause you to lose certain rights. An experienced Florida divorce attorney can help you understand the rights and responsibilities that result from the marriage.

No matter the size of your estate or the complexity of your family’s situation, we work diligently to achieve a positive outcome.
